Hungary is situated in Central Europe, in the Carpathian Basin. Its territory is 93 036 km2 with a population of about 10 million. It is in the Central European Time (CET) zone (GMT+1 hour), its official language is Hungarian, and its official currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF).
Hungary’s landscape varies between flat lands and rolling hills and mountains. The highest point is Kékes with 1014 meters. The country is also rich in waters – the biggest lake is Lake Balaton and the biggest rivers are the Danube and the Tisza.
The country’s climate is a relatively dry, continental climate with all the four seasons present. The winters are mildly cold and the summers a relatively hot. There are no extreme weather conditions, as the Alps and the Carpathians protect the country.
